Survival is not a planned camping trip or a mapped out hike in the park. Survival just plain sucks.
Dying Alone Answer: Your question is how you will die alone. You have to have plans. You have to have tools and weapons. You have to do things before you start living in your underground sanctuary, hide out, bunker, nuclear fall out shelter, dug out all alone. You cannot just live in a cave or in some underground structure and just survive all alone. Survival does not work that way. If you want to survive. You have to have a plan, tools, supplies and skill sets. If you want to survive you need to actually be associated with another like minded group of people and belong to a community. Who also have a plan, tools, supplies and skill sets.
Skill Sets Answer: You have to have those necessary skill sets like that of a Boy Scout, Ancient Tribal Person, bush craft and etc. Which means your not going to go off into the wild or underground without any necessary supplies, tools and weapons. Which also means that you will communicate with loved ones on your exact plans, time and schedule, mapping routes, and whereabouts. So that way if something happens you can be rescued or your corpse recovered.
Rule Of Three Answer: You need to know and understand the rule of threes. It takes about 3 minutes to die with the lack of good air to breathe. It takes about 3 hours to die from being exposed to harsh weather conditions. It takes about 3 days to die of thirst. It takes about 3 weeks to die of hunger.
Breathing Answer: You have to have clean oxygen rich air continually coming into your underground shelter. If you don’t then you and your loved ones will die in your sleep. All air intake pipes must be up wind and air exhaust air pipes must be down wind. All air pipes must be of sufficient size or you will suffocate and die. You will have to hide your air vents as these will be a sign of current human occupation. The cool air intake pipe should be down low and the hot air exhaust pipe should be up high. This will create a natural air flow, hopefully.
Odors Answer: You have to prevent any and all odors from escaping your underground shelter. This includes smoke from a fire, yummy odors or even human waste odors. Any escaping smoke will be like a smokey finger pointing to your exact location. Yummy odors will also attract predatory animals. A human with no tools or weapons of any kind will become living and screaming food to predatory animals. This does mean no fires inside or outside. Yea, and do not burn down the forest your hiding in. That will get you allot of attention as well as three hots and a cot. Assuming your corpse is not recovered.
Noises Answer: Any noise escaping from your underground shelter will attract attention from any wandering people. Any noise will also attract the attention of predatory animals which are always on the hunt for food. Humans are food for predatory animals. This means no radios, no singing and no talking or arguing with your imaginary friends.
Food Answer: Any raw meat food will attract predatory animals as well as the two legged animals both before and during cooking with fire and smoke. Did I mention no fire? So how will you cook meat food? Away from your underground shelter. But, still once a fire is discovered people will know someone is close by as people who are in hiding will not travel far.
Waste And Trash Answer: You have to manage your waste and trash as those will be signs of current human occupation which will garner the unwanted attention of wandering humans and predatory animals. Especially those animals which enjoy eating you while your still alive. If you burn your trash you will create a smokey finger which will point to your exact location and then you will have much attention.
Camouflage And Hiding Answer: If the exterior of your underground shelter or hideout looks like an established human camp ground camp site. Then this alone will garner much attention from humans and predators. Yes, predators know what human occupation looks like and the predators know that humans always have food or are food. So the exterior of your underground space must appear like no one has ever been there. Do not establish trails or walking paths. Do not break branches or twigs. Don’t be a rabbit. You see, I know how to find rabbits and not starve to death. Rabbits, raccoons, alligators and other animals make trails. Which means I will eat. Predatory animals also know how to find their own food. So do not be like the rabbit which can be easily found.
New Food Answer: You need to know that it takes about three weeks for you to die of hunger. While it can take more than 90 days for you to grow any food. This is assuming that the food you grow is not eaten by other animals or does not fail for other reasons. What this means is that you have to plant seeds by the many hundreds in many hundreds of different places in some random manner. Doing this avoids the appearance of crop rows as crop rows is evidence of current human occupation.
Planned Food Harvest Answer: Fruit and nut trees can only be harvested in their own specific time of the year. So you will need to have the mindset of knowing that you need to harvest something as close to every month of the year as possible. This means you have to plant as many different kinds of fruit and nut bearing trees as possible which fruit at different times of the year. Within your specific growing region. You also, need to understand that fruit and nut trees can take up to or more than five years just to go to first fruits and then another one to two years to go to full fruits. How long does it take to starve to death? This is on top of all of the non prickly pear cactus you can plant as well as potatoes, onions, garlic's and you get the point of what needs to be planted so that you wont starve to death all year long.
Clean Drinking Water Answer: You must have a direct source for clean drinking water. Remember the rule of three’s. This clean drinking water must be very close to or directly underneath your underground shelter. Which mean a hand powered pump. Which means you must find clean drinking water first before you establish any underground shelter. Yep, this one answer should be closer to the top of this list.
Technology Answer: The use of technology makes noise and require energy sources. Which means more noise. There are hand powered and solar powered radios and with head phones. You can have some outside silence while listening to what is going on. Keep in mind that even radio’s with hank crank generators attached still make noise. If you use solar panels they have to be fully exposed to the sun and anyone in a plane will know exactly where you are. If you use gas, diesel or propane generators they make allot of noise and require fuel sources. People will hear you, smell you and they will be easily seen as they tend to be made with bright pretty colors.
No Gas Products Answer: You cannot or should not have any gas products of any kind inside of your underground living space. Unless if you want to suffocate to death and then explode to death.

Good mnemonic, but not a law of nature. Actual survival times vary enormously with circumstances.
“All air intake upwind / exhaust downwind”
That's not a permanent rule, especially in Florida. Wind direction changes. And ventilation design is considerably more complicated than simply putting one pipe high and one low.
“Predators know humans have food or are food”
There is a real animal-hazard concept underneath this, but that wording is broader than the evidence supports. Different species behave very differently around humans.
“Plant hundreds of seeds randomly so it doesn't look like agriculture”
This is one of the more speculative sections. There is an underlying concern about crop failure and visibility, but deliberately scattering crops isn't automatically a better agricultural strategy. Agriculture needs sunlight, soil, water, spacing, nutrients, pest management, and harvesting access.

me. My first impression with the Quora person asking this question. I guess they want to be some kind of lone, lonely, loner? Which is of course the first mistake. Does this person have any survival skills, Boy-scout skills, military skills or long term homeless skills? I have no idea. ... Then this story just sparked into my mind about a homeless person who was living in a cave in California in 2022. But, the police arrested 6 people, found weapons. Then the cave in Modesto, California. I do not remember how many were arrested in the Modesto Riverbank caves. Probably and most likely organized by more than one person. me. Camping is fun and relaxing. Camping can be a beneficial learning experience. A nice leisurely hike in the sticks or at parks can find your lost focus and creativity. Catch and release fishing is rewarding and can lead to learning how to tie new knots. Survival really sucks. May not be useful, But, I know survival really and truly sucks. lol. Survival avoidance should be planned, engineered and avoided. Survival situations is a NO Bueno.
