Because, what direction each of the sides has for the civilian population is not the one which will involve any of them. Because they all already have their Classified DUMB's with no political division or separations. There isn't a red DUMB or a blue DUMB. You and Yours will be long forgotten when they are eating in dining rooms with dedicated and trusted servants to do all of their cleaning and feeding. All the while civilians are suffering and dying. While enjoying chocolates and candies in the safety of a military protected safe space.
Do Remember, it is all sides of the American Political mess which ended all aspects of any kind of safety net for any American civilian once the cold war ended. There are no more Fall Out Bunkers, Let alone updated, upgraded, modernized or even stocked. From what I have seen in the southeast those old cold war bunkers have been converted into dated office supply storage or something else. Or because they were 50 years old they were demolished and replaced with new buildings with no fallout shelter access for civilians. Do the research for yourself. Do note You may find one or two in major cities. There was at one time at least one in every city in every state. Even schools and hospitals had hardened safe areas. Many hospitals still do have hardened areas. Even if those small places do not have any supplies or the typical Fallout Shelter signs. While schools have just become more prison like or for keeping bad people out for students and not really safe in the event of any kind of extreme continent wide emergency event. What ever that may be.

Even if you separated yourself from your family and moved to California, Florida, Texas, New York, Pennsylvania or where ever else. You need to start bringing all of your family together and keeping them together. This is crucially important. Even if this means you need to start selling all of your real estate to make this happen. Yes, I know you may be north of 65 or 70. But, the cold hard truth is this. People who are old as we are means the probability of survival is very low. Actual survival is for the young, healthy, strong, smart and wise. But, It can be you who gives your younger family members a head start or a jump start. FEMA has made this study more than once that a Carrington event or a EMP detonation can cause op to 9 in 10 or 90% to be dead within the first year in the aftermath. Because, without you, all of your family members will most likely perish and that means it will be the end of the genetic uniqueness which identifies your whole family. Do not be one of those who family line just ends. Unfortunately, this action that you take if you choose looks like it must be very immediate. Current Farmers: Your direct actions will extend human lives. The cattle and poultry populations are low. This is two things which must drastically increase within 3 years. The physical expansion of your own farming practices must also increase in a very reasonable manner. Ideally, Every family must have their own dairy cow and chicken coops as well as other bird related coops as it was prior to the first industrial revolution.
