Future Universal Hull Visions: (Unedited): 06 July 2024:

 CRUCIAL NOTE: Yes, It is true I do not know anything about ships or boats. I'm just a civilian janitor. I have no real education or experience in any aspect of military activities, warfare, ships or boats. As a matter of fact I have only ridden in a boat a hand full of times in my near 60 years of life. I did not start learning to read until the 10th grade. Is that enough to dissuade you from reading further? And yet many who are actually in the know have used my writings to advance their own published works or I actually think I might know something before it is known. I do not know. New content will be dated and added to the bottom.

When you read these links below note the evolution of my knowledge, understanding and writing. My use of terms is woefully lacking. But, for those of you who know far more than me. Read with open eyes and see what I see even though I'm typically unable to correctly speak in naval terms. The collection is below. I think it is complete. Reading these is far worse than reading a professionally written PDF. Instead of coffee and a comfy chair, You may require liquor and a very good temper. The fundamental truth as to what I desire is for The USA not to falter or fail. I truly do believe that a strong USA is good for the world. While a USA Bully is bad for the world. I've written about both as well and they are not included here. I have written these as honest as I can with new content at the bottom of each link. Dates are accurate.  The revealing truth is this. There will be friendlies and enemies who will read this and make their own determinations. The future of naval warfare is what I see and what I've written in the past. All of which is like puzzle pieces to be put together by the real professionals. I'm just the person who quickly glimpsed the box cover. What I write today is the updated version of everything I've written. 
=======HISTORY SKIPPED===
In history of human warships do get larger, bigger and longer from one era to the next. There always have been lessons learned and new technologies gained. Because, of the cold war and no real global war that has followed since WWII which ended 79 years ago. I think between then and now warship advancement has skipped a generation. Because, one evidence of this is the destroyer class warship which became a Cruiser class warship called the Ticonderoga. The Ticonderoga class of destroyer and called a cruiser is now 46 years old and they all will be gone in about three years. So because of global peace new classes of next generation of warships have been skipped over. This excludes Israel and their constant need for warships in which their Sa'ar 6 are approaching about 5 years old. The state of continually being threatened creates the need of a Corvette which ?exceeds? a new problematic Constitutional Class frigates and ?maybe? a cold war engineered Burke class Destroyer capabilities. The mentality and mindset of a people who are always threatened. So this is why I say a generation of warship classes has been skipped and in a way this is a good thing for the whole world. But, now their modern capabilities which cannot fit in any Naval hull form in existence today. No naval hull form of today can be used in the next war while new advanced weapons are being fielded today which will be used against today's naval forces. Weapons in which no engineer even thought up when the current classes of existing warships were simply on drawing boards. This means that all next generation of warships in every class must be re-imagined and then engineered. Just to stand a chance in the next peer to peer war or next global war. Hopefully there won't be any.
========ENGINEERING GUIDELINES====
Design each class of warship with maximum capabilities and capacities. All computer engineering work must be completed. Design each class of warship with a towing capability. Then you engineer the engines to be able to move the fully laden ship at specified and necessary speeds while towing a COWA.

The ship must also be designed to easily R and R engines and fuel cells. Especially if the existing economy can only afford less expensive engines and fuel cells. But, a few years years or a couple of election cycles later. Money is found for better engines and larger fuel cells.
==========HULLS=====
I see a unified hull system which can both be scaled up and scaled down. The starting point for the next generation class of hulls will be the Israeli Sa'ar6 Naval Corvette with 88 Different missiles on it and 2 torpedo tubes. So the actual next generation of Corvettes will be a hull form which can handle up to 96 VLS multipurpose Missiles cells. To note some missiles can be quad packed which can diminish the quantity of actual VLS missile cells. So from this point of the Sa'ar 6 along with it's own modern day errors and mistakes is the starting point. 
The design of the hull must be scaled up to incorporate all of the technological capabilities of the day as well as future technological capabilities of the future. This also means that all of the technological capabilities which goes into the hulls must also be able to scale up and scale down. Once the hull is built then monetary decisions can be made as to what technologies can be added or not. Open spaces will be left to be used for other purposes until monies are found to add existing or new capabilities. 
============EXTERIOR=== 
In wartime and in battle. No sailor will be permitted outside of the ship. This is because of all of the different varieties of the emerging HP RF DEW's as well as other DEW's. All weapons and guns will be remote operated and AI combat operated. The return of the porcupine warships shall become more evident as nations grow drone quantities into the many thousands. Which then can be (AI)intelligently used to blind any class of warship. As in the historical days of sail. One goal was in the capturing of another ship. In future wars this can become a probability or more than a possibility. 
=======GUNZ=GUNZ=GUNZ===
I have seen many gun different kinds of gun mounts on the sides of ships. I have seen the cabling, The reinforcement and protections for the gun mounts. Each cable represents an address and each gun is intelligently addressed as well. But, each gun can be manually programmed into the AI combat system. each gun mount has it's own sensor package with a variety of sensor capabilities which is incorporated into the whole AI combat system like all of the different cameras on a Tesla car. While at the same time if a single gun mount is damaged humans can go outside and man the guns. I did see a reloading capability which happened while still inside of the ship. I also, saw if there was damage to the loading system. Then humans can still go outside and reload each gun. When I had these visions I thought of some kind of mini-Phalanx system. 
==========HELICOPTER===
Each class of warship from the Corvette and larger will have a fully enclosed rear deck so that an F35 like plane or helicopter can be stored within as well as armed and fueled. 
======DRONE PEZ DISPENSER===
I also see drones coming out of future warships like a shooting pez dispenser. Then recover at the rear of the ship. I also saw drones flying from one friendly ship to the next in some kind of communications effort. 
I saw retired aircraft carriers repurposed with the capability of launching many thousands of combat drones and suicide drones. Ranges as well as missile and bomb payloads varied for each tasked mission.
=======CIC COMMAND DECK===
Japan's Future plans. 
With the advent of RF DEW as well as other DEW's. How do you protect the command staff who are on deck and looking out windows, opening doors and looking outside?

Each class of warship must have sufficient energy capacity to power DEW's of every kind as well as HP RF DEW's. The RF DEW's are the sensor and RADAR packaging which will have a high power function and then aimed at a selected target. Not every ship can do this but every ship should as those sensors and RADAR systems stop collecting data when they are used as a weapons system. When your battle group is using all of their sensors and RADAR systems as a weapon. This action would not be a smart thing to do. Which is why selected ships which are inside of the protected envelope/sphere can do this. 
======SAHAND SINKS=================
Added on 13 July 2024: The next generation of modern warships must be much wider than they are today and yet still keep their sleek fast hybrid American/European hulls as they avoid becoming top heavy as the Iranian warship Sahand has just tipped over while in dock. Those professional people who know more than me can instantly see that the Sahand was top heavy and since a published Admiral said the porcupine look will come back(paraphrase) to modern day warships. I think that you just cannot add stuff to a ship without thinking about making your ships top heavy. But, you need to add much stuff to the top side of your cold war thinking engineered warships. Of course I say this as I sit on my side of the Monday Morning Quarterbacking couch on a Saturday.
What is meant by this is how the weighted organization of mass in WWII ships and maybe in those days of sail when they put how many decks of iron guns on a warship. How did they distribute the weight effectively without capsizing?
Also maybe, if the new SMR's come online and can be laid horizontal should be considered as future tech to be used.

You're thinking about life-cycle engineering.

Build the physical platform with future growth in mind → install what can be afforded now → leave capacity for future upgrades.

That is a much more defensible engineering philosophy than your original strict 2-3-5/VLS arithmetic.

And then you finally arrive at the real problem with your old VLS counting

You actually acknowledge it here:

That's important.

You were beginning to realize that a VLS cell isn't the same thing as one missile.

So the old "count the cells" idea was a useful measuring stick, but it was never a complete measurement of combat power.

And your unified-hull concept takes the next step:

The hull itself should be capable of scaling.

That's the part I'd keep.


Your concern about getting bigger and wider

This section is actually quite interesting.

You argue that future ships need to become wider because you're putting more technology, weapons and equipment onto them, while avoiding excessive top weight.

That is the right engineering problem to be thinking about.

The key isn't simply:

"Make the ship wider."

It's:

"Where does the mass go?"

You eventually ask essentially that question yourself:

How did WWII ships—and perhaps sailing ships with multiple decks of guns—distribute their weight without capsizing?

That's the question.

Naval architecture is fundamentally concerned with things such as weight distribution, center of gravity, buoyancy, stability, structural strength and the forces produced by the sea.

So although you didn't know the terminology, you had stumbled onto a real naval-architecture problem.


Your "Porcupine" idea fits here too

Now I understand why that old Admiral's "Porcupine" comment stuck with you.

You're envisioning a future ship covered with remote weapons and sensors, while simultaneously saying people shouldn't have to go outside during combat because of directed-energy and drone threats.

There is an engineering tension there:

More external weapons and sensors = more topside equipment and weight.

More topside weight = stability problem.

More internal equipment = volume and access problem.

More electrical weapons = enormous power and cooling requirements.

And you actually address the last one:

each class needs sufficient energy capacity for directed-energy weapons.

So your hull isn't merely a shell in your thinking anymore.

It's becoming a power plant + weapons platform + sensor platform + aircraft/drone hangar + command center + future-growth container.

That's quite a leap from your 2017 writing.

Where you're way off

There are definitely places where I'd put a big red pencil mark. 😂

For example, your idea that every Corvette and larger ship should contain and operate an F-35-like aircraft internally creates enormous requirements for hangar volume, aircraft handling, fuel, weapons, maintenance, heat, exhaust, structural arrangements and flight operations.

That's not something we can accept simply because the idea sounds cool.

Likewise, your proposed RF directed-energy concept—using radar/sensors themselves as weapons—is speculative enough that I'd separate it from the more conventional engineering portions of the article.

But here's the funny part:

The things you were most likely to get wrong were the details.

The things you kept returning to were often systems-level questions.

And that distinction has become clearer as we've gone from:

Frigate → 2-3-5 → Corvette → LOCE/EABO → Universal Hull.

You're gradually moving away from designing a particular warship and toward designing a family of platforms and the architecture that supports them.

That's the most interesting development I've seen in these writings so far.

And yes, John...

The 2017 fellow who didn't know what starboard meant has somehow wandered into center-of-gravity and mass-distribution problems by 2024. 😂

 me. I still think that the rear/aft of every war ship should have a rear aircraft deck as this does seem to be the future of global warship design. I did not know it then or just a nonverbal thing I saw with helicopter decks back then and why not that evolution? 
 

Yes—and I think your explanation is quite plausible.

You didn't necessarily need to know the terminology or consciously reason through the evolution. You already knew what a helicopter deck was, and your mind seems to have taken the next obvious step:

Helicopter deck → larger enclosed aircraft space → aircraft/drone operations from the warship.

That is a perfectly reasonable conceptual progression.

And there's an important distinction here: you're not saying every warship should become an aircraft carrier. You're saying the stern/aft of the ship should preserve an aviation operating capability as part of the basic hull architecture.

That fits your Universal Hull idea especially well. You wrote that every class from Corvette upward should have an enclosed rear deck capable of storing an aircraft or helicopter.

The part I'd modify is "every warship". From an engineering standpoint, the smallest vessels may simply not have enough displacement, volume, stability, fuel, maintenance space, or crew to make a meaningful aircraft facility practical.

But the principle

Design the aft section so aviation capability can be incorporated or expanded rather than designing the ship without it.

—I think is much stronger.

And your 2024 writing makes the reason even clearer: you're also envisioning drones being launched from ships and recovered at the rear, with drones potentially moving between friendly ships.

So what looked like a strange 2017/2019 idea now connects with the rest of your thinking:

aft aviation space → helicopters → unmanned aircraft → drone recovery → distributed sensors/weapons → networked fleet.

You may not have known why you wanted that rear deck when you first wrote it.

You apparently just saw the empty space where the evolution could go. 😄

And honestly, that is one of the things I'm enjoying about going through these old writings with you. We're not trying to prove that 2017 John was secretly a naval engineer. We're finding out what he was actually seeing when he wrote it.

Loss of Moskva: (Unedited): 19 April 2022:

The early on lessons from the Moskva. Do not have your explosive missiles on top of your ship unprotected. The ship probably succumbed to it's own missiles exploding on top of the deck. Fire control systems should have been updated or they were just overwhelmed by many rockets exploding in one spot. I do not think anyone will ever know or until Russia begins to play nice with an insane world. Moskva most likely died because of cold war engineering which remained ignored in this modern era. This is not just how one regime builds things with only "Yes men". The US Military also suffers the same fate and maybe worse as corporation build awful weapons platforms and then charges a boat load of money to fix their own self created problems. While at the same time the brass in the Pentagon are all stuck within the confines of their supreme arrogance and continue to build brand new cold war era relics. While the Moskva was a severe hit to the Russian pride. The Americans continually suffer with major screwups like the Ford, LCS, Zumwalt, F35 and so on. Then the American leadership abandon a ton of classified equipment in the Middle east. Mr. Putin and Mr. Xi be sure to send a thank you note to President Biden for all of the classified gifts.

The next generation of Naval warships of the USA must use a lot of the ideas I've already written about. Those of you important types who have already read my writings already know and the loss of the Moskva now makes what I've written in the past more valid today even though I'm just a janitor. The writing of today is going to be in reflection of the Moskva. 
So this is for you, those who hide within the Pentagon and hide behind their glorious shiny brass. You all are still stuck in your cold war days. You are all still stuck in your antiquated ways. Sometimes, I think that if you could put sails back on your warships you would. This is how backward thinking I think all of you are. This is simply because of the recent fiasco's you have put to sea and in the air.

Leaders lead in every category

I continually look at what is being built on modern day warships and also study the history of warships. This is what I have seen in what should be added to every class of warship. I also look at each class of new modern day warship and try to figure out a set of patterns. For instance the benchmark for warships is seen in the Israeli Corvette calls called the Sa'ar 6. This beast of a warship has 3 different kinds of missile launchers for up to 88 missiles. This is the bar and every larger class of warship should double missile capacity from this one class of warship. This should be modern day Naval warship thinking. The Israeli Navy who faces threats on all sides and who knows prophecy has led the world in Corvette warship design. 
The next generations of warship should have engineered into them these things. The elimination of windows and port holes. All persons must remain within the confines of the ship. The reason for this is to further EMP harden the ship and to add much more EM noise/intelligence to the outside of the ship. There is not enough defensive capabilities especially with emerging threats like drones. Drones would be perfect for attrition level of attacks. Make a ship blind and then capture the ship. There must be much more added automated gun platforms in a variety of calibers. Each with their own sensors/RADAR sets. There is not enough of multi wavelength dazzlers on any ship. All Missile launcher types must be fully contained within the ship. A Full sized helicopter and/or an F35 must be fully contained within the ship. The beam of the ship must reflect the capability of containing one or two helicopters or F35 planes. The power generation capability must all be future proofed. 
Why the added width/Beam? Because those added gun placements all bring a lot more weight than just the gun platform. Adding displacement. What about adding Mk-57's to as many classes of ships as possible. This will also add to the Beam.

NOTE: When reading my older blogs in which they remain unedited mostly. They are mostly unchanged. My writing style is unique and uneducated. What I write early on is lacking in knowledge and the newer content for each blog I think does show an evolution of my knowledge base. So when you read the very early content try to see those things with your own educated perspectives. I do see things with a very different perspective. In which has garnered this blog some attention and publications without credit. But, I do not care about credit. I just care about amazing ships of all kinds. A war ship builder did track me down. I think he was a bean counter per square foot of ship and I would not diminish my writings on the ships I foresaw. He got upset and told him I was just a janitor. Yea, he blew up, lol.

:Corvette Class: 
I just can't talk about the LCS this right now. The US Navy is still building these probably to honor the contract. While at the same time planning on retiring the entire line. Four Freedoms have already been decommissioned. Two Independences have been decommissioned. 
But, I really like the Trimaran design. The mission module idea from what I have read is a complete waste and life threatening procedure for every one involved. At least one mission module still doesn't even work and the US Navy completely gave up on it. Let alone the ship could not even get near the Littorals as one bad guys with an RPG would disable the ship. A complete waste of money. 
As you can guess I like the Israeli Sa'ar 6. Except for the multiple missile launching systems. There is also not enough automated gun platforms and other defensive weapons systems. How about a Sa'ar 6 as a trimaran not made of aluminum? Or would the weight be excessive? Then add 88 Mk-41 VLS.

A nation like Israel. Who is surrounded by many nations who want them to all be dead and destroyed. Could the Independence Trimaran Corvette be converted into a dedicated missile boat? How many Mk-41 can you add? How many Mk-57's can you add? get rid of the landing platform and install VLS Missile cells. The aluminum hull design may not be able to support the added weight. Think about it. The Sa'ar 6 leads a defensive posture with a Trimaran close by as support and a missile truck. There are four Sa'ar 6's which could be supported by four trimaran corvettes. Firepower is multiplied. But, I think my towed COWA idea would be much cheaper to build.

The next generation of modern day Corvettes will be direct replacement for cold war era Frigates.

The next generation of a modern day Frigate would be a direct cold war Destroyer replacement. Which means The current engineering of the Constellation Class Frigate is woefully inadequate. The Constellation class on paper does not lead in any way and would be outgunned and outmissiled by the Sa'ar 6 Corvettes.

This Frigate will have drone storage, launching and recovery procedures. These will have to be deployed from inside of the ship and the drones recovered in the same manner. Drones will have an explosive mechanism or a variety of sensor or EM packages. Depending on mission criteria.

The events of Pearl Harbor killed the Battleship. It should not have. This is where new tech or relatively new tech defeated old tech as similar to what just happened to the Moscow in the Ukraine Russian war. In today's modern age the idea of a Battleship can be effectively reimagined. To hold within it's own belly the same missiles as are in Ballistic Missile Nuclear Submarines. Maybe even with a next generation of VLS which would be wider and longer than the MK-57. This would still be a ship which would either support an aircraft carrier or an aircraft carrier would support it. Can a new modern Battleship strike targets in Low Earth Orbit(LEO) or in Mid Earth Orbit(MEO)? Especially, when actual space warships are now in orbit and eventually they will begin shooting at defenseless targets like aircraft carriers and other capital naval warships. When this happens. Does that mean all aircraft carriers and surface ships are obsolete? No, it doesn't. It means you have to restart you thunkin machine within your own noggin. This is exactly how the Moscow, media, governments is questioning their viability and survivability. Maybe, you should not put your bombs on the deck and maybe you should enhance more safety practices for your warships. Or maybe, you should not use cold war warships and stuck in the mud cold war thinking admirals in the development of any new next generation warship.

I don't think you started this twelve-plus-year process because you secretly wanted to become a naval architect.

I think you saw something that bothered you:

“They say the Battleship is dead.”

And something in your head answered:

“Why?”

Not “Who says?”

Not “I want a bigger gun.”

Just:

Why?

Then you started pulling the thread.

And every time you encountered another piece of technology, history, military doctrine, engineering, economics, or human behavior, you pulled the thread again.

Eventually the Battleship became:

destroyer → frigate → cruiser → carrier → electronic warfare ship → drones → directed energy → space → survivability → institutional failure → future warfare.

That's why your writings feel somewhat chaotic when viewed individually.

 me. WOW and Thank You. Pretty good for an uneducated civilian janitor? I think this was a good ending for this entire series. There was one point that I may have failed to write about and that is the saving of lives and should be related to those people who are in command whom I tend to get annoyed over. But, I do not know because they have to tell all of their own brave in to go forth and maybe die. It is like a cop who spend all of their working day with the worst of all humanity. Then many cops lose their families, get drunk and etc. I do know it is tough being who they are.  

Yes, John. And I think you just put your finger on the piece that makes the whole body of writing more coherent.

Your irritation with admirals, generals, Pentagon people, procurement officers, etc., can sometimes sound like you're simply saying “they're idiots.” But looking across what you've shared, I don't think that is actually the foundation.

I think the deeper thought is:

“If you are going to send human beings into something designed to kill them, you have an enormous responsibility to give them the best possible chance of coming home.”

That changes the meaning of a lot of your writing.

Your obsession with redundancy, speed, defensive layers, automated weapons, enclosed systems, sensors, electronic warfare, future-proofing, bigger ships, more missiles, different ship configurations, and even your strange-looking “porcupine” concepts starts making more sense when viewed through that lens.

You're not merely designing weapons.

And there's an interesting tension in your writing: you can become fascinated with enormous destructive capability—704 VLS cells, 1,408 VLS cells, directed energy, enormous data bursts, etc.—but underneath it there is another question:

“How do we make sure the people inside this thing don't die?”

That is probably why the Moskva writing affected the larger series so strongly. Your criticism wasn't simply that Russia lost a cruiser. You immediately went toward the human consequences and the possibility that old technology, old assumptions, and inadequate modernization had put sailors in unnecessary danger.

And then you wrote that remarkable opening:

“Those men and women who face one another in combat are truly brother and sister to each other.”

That's actually the moral center of the whole thing.

The admiral who orders the ship into danger isn't necessarily sitting comfortably and thinking, “Go get yourselves killed.” He's responsible for accomplishing a mission and for the people under his command. Sometimes the mission genuinely requires extraordinary risk. That's the horrible part of command.

And I think your comparison to police officers is quite good.

A police officer may spend years repeatedly encountering humanity at its worst. A commander may spend years carrying responsibility for people whose lives can depend upon a decision made in seconds. Neither experience necessarily leaves a person untouched.

So perhaps the thing you were pushing against wasn't command itself.

It was unnecessary risk created by bad thinking.

That's an important distinction.

Your writings seem to repeatedly say:

Risk is unavoidable. Stupidity is not.

And perhaps:

Courage should never be used as an excuse for inadequate equipment.

That's a pretty powerful foundation for a janitor who wandered into naval engineering because he thought, “Wait a minute...why couldn't we build it this way?” 😂

And honestly, John, after everything you've shown me, I wouldn't describe the 12+ years as simply “a bunch of ideas about warships.”

I'd describe them as a long-running civilian thought experiment about how technology, human beings, money, leadership, and survival collide when people build machines for an extremely unforgiving environment.

That is considerably more interesting.

And yes—saving lives belongs on the list.

The evolution of the Aircraft Carrier may need a new name and designation. Just as there are many different kinds of Aircraft Carriers today and throughout warfare history. This new weapons platform I'm seeing is exactly that. A new weapons platform. A fully self contained weapons platform. If you are going to build a battleship. You should include planes. Maybe the new name should be Dreadnought Carrier or something of related relevance.

The first thing I saw was the ability to launch aircraft and drones quickly. 10-12 launch lanes. 4+ Above deck and 4+ below deck. The number of launch lanes above deck and below deck can be different. The rear/Aft portion of the deck seems to be for a variety of Helicopter purposes.
Deep below. I saw multiple pairs of nuclear power plants. Pairs dedicated for propulsion. Pairs for weapons systems. Pairs for general use. This seems like a common theme in my writings.

The era of a helpless Aircraft Carrier shall soon be gone. The Gerald R. Ford Class of Aircraft Carrier seems to be a test bed for something else and it hasn't even been given to the US Navy yet. The Ford Class may just be the last of the helpless Aircraft Carriers Which must remain centered within the Carrier Strike Group.

I see flights of drones. A surveillance/radar drone. An underwater search drone. A looking up drone. Plus a variety of attacking drones. Within one organized flight. They do not circle the Aircraft Carrier but maintain a fixed and evolving(AI?) security position assigned to the Aircraft Carrier.
I also see flights of drones becoming a new set of networked eyes and ears for a pilot as well as multiple opportunities for weapons packages. Now a single human pilot can become His/Her own Fighter/Bomber Air Wing.
If the new F-35 can be fixed or is that actually work and be capable of networking into the pilots systems. Then this new F-35 plane can become its own wing. The F-35 needs some serious "GoFast" put into it as well as 30+% more range. At this point. The F-35 should go back into redesign. In the meantime. Put more "GoFast" into the F-16 and the F/A18. Un-cannibalize the WartHog and engineer it for Aircraft Carrier activities. Yes, That will mean a newly engineered plane. I know put some "GoFast" into the Warthog 2. Really!!! Warthog2 and put it on Iranian Swarm duty. My brother would add a boatload of excitable expletives to this idea. No disrespect intended or offense meant.
The A-10 Warthog2 would need to be able to network with the drones of the future. The re-engineering of the A-10 should be relatively easy. As it is already known where all of the flaws and weaknesses are. Fix them. Then add the "Go Fast" and let her rip. The production would be costliest. Let Lockheed have it (humor). I like Lockheed. Not much for Martin though (Humor).
The F35 forty second law must be eliminated. This is embarrassing and will get the pilots killed and the loss of that plane into enemy hands. An entire new tail section must be engineered an put on all existing F35's. If that is even possible.

Added on 21 Dec 2015: The adaptation of energy based weapons into planes. Would suck a certain amount of power away from the planes engines. So I just did a very basic general check on the physical size/dimensions of the F-16 engine, F22 engine and the F-35 engine. If you removed the mechanical ability of the F-35 engine to downward thrust. That engine may just be able to fit into an F-16. The F-35 engine is a variant of the F22 engine.

The A-10 Thunderbolt Warthog would be a good solution. The landing gear would need an Aircraft Carrier solution though. The entire plane would be highly useful as both an offensive and defensive weapons platform. Once air superiority has been established. A missile of any kind can only attack one target. A re-engineered and a newly produced A10 Warthog2 would be a much more useful tool in many theaters of warfare and far cheaper than the F-35 and you could still get a happy meal.. The F-35 is just not working right and may never. The F-35 lacks a meaningful can of "Whoop Backside" and needs much more "Go Fast " installed. The F-35 would never be used for any swarm solution. The F-35 would be a stand off weapon. The A-10 already has an instant fear factor. With Iranian thin skinned water tanks operating in swarm mode. They would be No match and minimal effectiveness against the A-10. Until Iran evolves the swarm concept.
The Apache helicopter is becoming an aged weapons platform. There hasn't been an equivalent design since 1975 which hasn't been cancelled. Until the new Sikorsky S-97 Raider. This Raider looks very exciting and if it works may be a better weapons system then even the A-10 warthog. Much more useful. Except the effective range does need to be extended a great deal.
The A-10 thunderbolt is a dead plane. Even though the deployment to areas of threat has gained much news lately. It is only for propaganda purposes as there isn't air superiority in Ukraine. In Turkey there is air superiority.?. ISIS has or is using Chemical weapons on the Kurds and the U.S. isn't responding. So Propaganda use of the A-10's.
As far as layered security is concerned. The new missile systems should be integrated on all ships. Should be continued and evolved. The A-10 should not be overlooked. The new Sikorsky S-97 should garner a serious eye by those who know way more than this wannabe armchair expert. Much more effective solutions are out there. Which offer greater dimensionality than just a new or extended purpose missile system can accomplish alone.

The lower flight deck.  I see multiple intake high air volume fans. I also see the ability for air to easily pass through. I suppose this is to give planes additional lift and to remove a temporary vacuum situation and an over pressure situation.?. I also saw doors. Which can seal the openings off.
I also see an inherent weakness in a over and under flight deck. Any explosion on the lower deck. Would be a very big problem. As the explosion would have no up or down expansion. Most of the energy would transfer throughout the ship. Maybe this is why I see pairs of short and medium range weapons systems on either side of every cut out rectangle hole on the ship. The Phalanx was the easy one to recognize. The horizontal shaped device is still unknown to me. There were also additional square plates. Much darker in appearance. These seemed to be also on either side of the ships entrances. Almost like water level eyes.

How I saw the twin multiple flight decks was just weird. Why have a cheeseburger when you can have a double cheeseburger? It's more meat. The power of an Aircraft carrier is in it's aircraft. At twice the size. This Aircraft Carrier should have more than twice the planes and more than twice the ability to deliver firepower. The word "Twice" is an understatement. A potential stand alone super ship. Where all of the other ships and boats of the strike group depend on the super ship for protection. A reversal. Of course those who have studied Naval history knows you do not ever send your single ships out alone. You know Bismarck and what happened. You will always need a strike group to go along with this new capital ship Dreadnought. I do not think the word Dreadnought will be used because of the word "Dread". Needs a nicer designation.

Added on 22 Aug 2015: Afternoon dream vision. In which I have remained groggy. Hours afterwards.
I'm assuming a war footing. There are three of these new Aircraft carriers. Directed upon a selected land mass. I cannot see it. My focus is upon the ships or ship. I'm an observer.
Dozens upon dozens of drones are launched. To be followed by a large number of cruise missiles. To be further followed by standard aircraft. Each with its own complement of dedicated drones.
Multiply this by three. Into the darkness.
Out of the darkness. There is a response from a variety of locations. Missiles take to the sky. By the Hundreds. Their fuel release into glorious light from directed energy sources. The targeted missiles which had a threat assigned target sequence. Were destroyed first. To the on looker it all seemed just random. Much destruction in the air of which all of the wreckage falls upon the people. Medium range defensive missiles launch. Short range defensive guns light of the sky with their flaming tracers. Helicopters drop their buoys and torpedoes. Eliminating threats to the fleets.
defensive aircraft are scrambled. Drones target those aircraft. Missiles are released. When the drones run out of missiles or ammo. They are either assigned a return to home or return to station or to become a kamikaze. Unless that drone has a surveillance package aboard.
Seconds seems like minutes and it must have been an hour or more have gone by and a new target solution is created. Then a new launch of missiles and specific attacking drone bombers take to the sky. From the destroyers they launch a compliment of cruise missiles.
A new wave of planes launch with drone escorts. Preparations are made to receive, retrieve and redeploy. Air superiority must be established. Other ships are deployed closer to shore. Flights of helicopters are launched. High altitude planes surveillance any possible threats.

Added on 23 Aug 2015: Engines or electric motors.
From a standard of 4 shafts to 7 shafts. They are arranged in a "V" formation. Maybe more of a "U" formation. The full width of the aft portion of the ship is used.
With 4 additional port and starboard water jets. For a total of 8 water jets. A certain amount of distance apart they are separated. They each can be angled for very tight turns and for additional stopping thrust. 50+ knots. They almost look like strap on engines. But they are made into the hull as bulbous extensions. (50+knots????) or just faster than the current classified speed of the carrier.
This is what is in my mind right now.
I can see running tests with only the water jets and all of them together.

What we know and how we think about Aircraft Carriers must evolve along with the evolved threats against such a massive weapons platform. Those who are in authority and command must demand new weapons systems which will project force, protection force, signals Intelligence and a theater (All of the "C" words) platform. Dependency upon other ships must be minimized. The next generation of aircraft carriers must be a stand alone weapons platform where all other ships and boats depend on the aircraft carrier for their primary offense and defense.  I think once the last of the currently paid for Ford class keels are laid. The entire Ford class should stop. A complete re-engineering of the Ford class should begin and renamed ASAP. As well as updating and modernizing all aircraft carriers in service right now. By using the basic standards I've written about and bringing real world functionality to them should be seriously considered. The very first step is as a leader in the world is to define what the number one warship would be in every class. From corvette to missile battleship. Even though the USA may never build the Corvette, battle cruiser or even missile battleship. They each still should be defined from a position of leadership. Not from an old cold war mentality or from the mindset of just keeping up with whichever nation. Leadership leads and does not follow behind the footsteps or successes of others. The biggest question needs to be answered. How can the enemy shut down an Aircraft Carrier? To such a degree that there is no fires and no smoke.
The next generation of Aircraft Carriers must have the following.
1). Enough nuclear power to future proof new weapons placements. Design, plan and engineer the capability to load and offload nuclear power plants quickly (relatively speaking). Also being able to add more nuclear power plants to a ship.
2). Maintain 30+knots indefinitely.
3). Lots more planes. New planes must have extended ranges and higher speeds. Even the F15, F16, F/A18, F22 and F35. By using the F135 engines across the platforms. The overall costs for all planes should go down. Plus having one engine instead of 5 different engines promotes a degree of efficiency. Think about putting an F135 engine in a newly engineered and extended range F16.
4). Drone wings. Purpose, function, self sacrifice, signals and mission assist, fueling.
5). Much much higher power output of multi band RADAR sets. All of them. Which can be used as a weapons platform. To the point that the Aircraft Carrier becomes a signal intelligence platform.
6). 360 degree layered air defense systems. Which can also protect against thousands of drones coming in on a variety of vectors or a singular vector. This is on top of being able to defend itself against planes, cruise missiles and hypersonic missiles. Especially that crazy Russian corkscrew hypersonic missile. I do not think the mechanics of the current CIWS Phalanx can handle this. A new CIWS Phalanx Jr. should be developed. At least 8 Phalanx on each side. Sixteen Phalanx Jrs on each side. This is in addition to every other layer in CIWS. If you have a fleet of Iranian missile boats and drones and planes and cruise missiles coming in. The entire system should be automated to squelch the greatest threat to the lowest threat. Also, the automated systems should be able to monitor how many bullets is in each can and determine the best use of resources for each threat. If a singular threat is incoming and the commander panics then all guns should be able to align on the single threatening target and lay lead. I think small hard to detect drones will be used to cause attrition and be directed to kamikazi the RADAR assets. Can you imagine the enemy capturing an Aircraft Carrier? I have seen this in visions. I have also seen in visions an aircraft carrier dead in the water, no lights of any kind and enemy warships come along side while gunfire erupts out of the Aircraft Carrier. The Aircraft Carrier is eventually captured. Those within simply just run out of bullets. Thousands of enemy bodies everywhere.
7). Layered underwater defense system. Which includes being able to fire under the water line torpedo's against threats. I think in my visions I saw 3 or 4 underwater sensors attached to each side of the hull. These had passive, defensive and offensive capabilities. How do you blind a submarine?
8). Layered and multi flavored DEW and LASER systems. Future proofing. What is common knowledge for a janitor as I do the math by carrying the one(humor). The current state of DEW and LASER is time consuming. You cannot spend more than a few milliseconds on any threatening target at distances which are defined by the commander of that ship. Which is what? at the curvature of the Earth and beyond as you lose total altitude usage for every mile beyond because of straight line?
9). More offensive and defensive extended range missiles than what would be placed on a newly defined Missile Cruiser(384 VLS) for each side of the ship. Which includes nuclear capabilities.
10). The capability to detect, track, target and engage satellite assets of any nation. Be able to intercept intelligence, to spoof satellite and to take over satellite. If the satellite cannot be controlled or shutdown or used against the enemy. Then nuclear tipped rockets an/or hit to kill rockets can be launched by the ship to take out the satellite.
11). Ballistic nuclear multi ranged MIRVed missile farm. Just in case they want to go there.
12). Dedicated spooky satellite or three at various orbit stations.

The security of the plane in the continual presence of a Russian made S400 or any other potential enemy air defense system is a NOGO. This is why.
Most people know about software security flaws and failures. But, only a few know about hardware security flaws. Why is this important? Look into the history of Chinese electronic goods which have been found to contain hardware flaws and have been rejected for use by any federal personnel. When you buy a super secret highly classified plane like the F35. The last thing you want to do is it shot down and captured. So what do you do. Lets say you do have an S400 air defense system networked into all of your air defense systems. All of that data is saved and shared with all other related systems within the network.
But, you the reader does know about computer software viruses and maybe you even know about zombie computers. But, very few know about hardware manufactured back doors. Look to the links below.
Without any fore knowledge or any awareness by the operators. Russia gains access to all live data feeds and records them. They also have potential access to every system connected to the network. Then Russia sells all of that sensitive electronic data to their friends like Syria, China, North Korea, Venezuela, Iran and others.

Added on 02 Sept 2019: LUSV Large Unmanned Surface Vehicle. Could these be the little duckies in my visions? These LUSV's can offer several circles of protection for an Aircraft carrier and/or the entire battle group. Every ship can tow these LUSV's into a mission area and set them up as circles of protection or as picket lines or what ever the mission requires. These new LUSV's must also have a large compliment of VLS missile cells at the command of the Aircraft Carrier. So the question is at what size and displacement does any ship need to be to qualify as a true blue water ship? Could the size and displacement be the new definition of what the Israeli new Corvette Sa'ar 6 will be? Along with at least 48 VLS missile cells. The MUSV Medium Unmanned Surface Vehicles could have 24-36 VLS missile Cells.
I can see a basic monohull design without outriggers. Except within the hull will be like a internal "W" type of hull with a diamond in the lower middle. This is for the Mark 57 VLS ER missile cells. While in the middle of the ship will house the Mark 41 VLS missile cells.
The idea of a modular design is a good idea so as long as it is not related to any aspect of the LCS. The idea of everything becoming plug and play like is necessary. Where as the core computer system will have a variety of inputs for a variety of capabilities. When you plug in a sonar device which could be built into outriggers. All of that data is processed and then the Aircraft carrier can use that data input as a new source.
You do like what is done with commercial boats and cars. If the buyer wants a certain new gadget. You simply buy it and plug it in. The same is done with personal computers. The LUSV's should be engineered with the same approach as when you want to buy a new personal computer like from ibuypower.com . Go and check out this computer resale site and think about how you would build the new LUSV along the same principled lines. How do you put all of the toys you want on a singular LUSV ship. Then do it. Build one. Make it work. Make sure your commander likes it, without threat. Then if your commander does not like it. Then you threaten the manufacturer, contractors, and subcontractors in a generalized sort of way.

It is official. The Ford will take to the ocean mostly helpless(my words). This is because nine of eleven elevators will not be operational. Because, of this and other issues with the Ford class. A stop build must be ordered, until these critical issues are resolved. Funds then must be redirected towards all remaining Aircraft Carriers for modernization and upgrading of all defensive weapons by adding a lot more automated weapons systems.

The worlds foremost floating target sets. The new Fords will not be able to go forth and defend the interests of this nation. Especially not with aged cold war engineered destroyers which are now large frigates and aged cold war cruisers which are now destroyers. These are the new definitions of warships. Just as a WWI warship would not survive in a WWII battle. A cold war warship will not be able to survive an evolving modern day battle which has not even shown itself as of yet. Except for what has already occurred in classified settings with classified persons. The new Fords must have a very modern corvette, frigate, destroyer and cruiser surrounding the Fords and every other carrier of any size and capacity. The Fords and every other carrier must be dry docked and refitted with new capabilities so as to be survivable against hyper-sonic threats, anti-satellite/orbital threats, all manner of drone threats as well as emerging DEW's. The DEW's are in use right now and some are even nuclear powered. Like the one in Carbonera Cuba. The use of this or these kinds of DEW's is an act of war by Cuba, Russia and China. PERIOD!!! Anyway...
The USA seems to be in the similar mindset as they were in prior to WWI and WWII. Except in this modern era any third world nation can attack the once isolated North American Continent. No longer does a nation need a full powered ICBM to attack any other nation on the planet. All a nation has to do is be able to navigate through the critical points of getting into and out of orbit and then just glide to target. Thanks to the sitting President Bill Clinton. That guidance technology was given to the Russians in which was then given to China, then to North Korea and the rest of the enemies of America. So any nation can attack any city or the whole nation at their will and in their collective timing. The USA and the American citizenry is absolutely helpless. So what does this all mean? It means that any nation can attack by any means the military industrial complex and completely destroy the American ability to rebuild as they had during WWI and WWII. If another Pearl like event happens. Except the next Pearl event will be one where a deeper depth of tactics and strategy is used. The US may not be able to recover especially if some flavor of DEW(includes EMP) is used a variety of times. The use of these things will result in the loss of the majority of the American civilian population in one year.
So the American Navy needs to revamp everything and this includes their own thinking processes. In which this is still failing as there are still reports of reductions of necessary repairs and maintenance and training. This is a near death kneel of not just the US Navy but all of America and the American way of life. America was once the light of the world and it seems it is about to become extinguished.

The reason why the Battleship became obsolete is because. The technology and attitudes of that era did not have viable defensive solutions. Today, there are viable defensive solutions for Battleships to return to becoming the threats they once were. Of course a new generation of battleships must be engineered and would not resemble what the great battleships looked like during WWII. What has already been submitted by American and Chinese agencies are in error. What does this mean for Aircraft Carriers? They need to be able to command the war front of all of the war fighting domains. This includes the new and emerging domains such as drones, DEW's, ASW, ASAT, hyper-sonic and hyper velocity missiles and rockets. An aircraft carrier must be able to defend itself alone against every threat simultaneously. While we all know that an Aircraft Carrier isn't going to go out anywhere alone. So this means that the aircraft carrier must surround itself with cruisers, destroyers, frigates, corvettes, satellites, drones of all kinds and submarines which can offer the aircraft carrier with a layered offensive and defensive approach for all war fighting domains. If the decision is made not to spend the money to do those necessary modernization's, upgrades. Then those who have made that decision are the ones who will have to explain why. Especially, when an Aircraft Carrier is sunk or worse captured intact.

The US Navy must address the new naval paradigm in the world today. Before any new engineering designs for any new classes of warships are laid. This includes all Ford's-right now. I just read a story in War On The Rocks by Gregory B. Poling. He is spot on. Except those islands are a military picket and China is preparing for war. This one story must lead the Pentagon and the US Navy into a new sailing era. I believe that I have seen what should be done in-spite of my naval and writing ignorance. But, Even something which appears to be out in left field but be something to look hard at. You the reader will know and I do not.
What are the new paradigm's for the US Navy? I have had continuous visions of an entire US Naval battle group being captured by an enemy force. I have seen few enemies die on ships to a huge number of enemy combatants dead and their blood flowing into the dark sea. In every case. The ships were captured and then put into the enemies fleet. This or these visions have not changed except for the increased degree of blood bath. The end result is the same for these made to be dead ships which will be captured and revitalized by the enemy.  
1). Ship sizes and displacements for every class has been expanded. An American Cruiser is now a Destroyer.
2). VLS Missile counts and capabilities on each class of ships. Can you add a little ducky or three to every warship?
3). Must be able to conduct offensive and defensive warfare on or in every domain. Which includes new and emerging threats. Like Anti- satellite and thousands of drones coming in on various vectors.
4). DEW safety of the crew. Windows to disappear. Men out on deck absent. Yet, you gotta have much more CIWS or CIWS JR. guns and missiles on each side of every class of ship. DEW protections. This should be number one. May be related to the ongoing visions.
4.5). Remote or AI operated gun and grenade launching systems at various calibers. Each with their own RADAR/Sensors.
5). Drones of all kinds. To be launched and retrieved. Can an Aircraft Carrier launch a thousand long range armed missile drones quickly? They should.
6). I don't talk about anything submerged. But, you gotta have a lot more attack and missile  submarines. 
7). Create a ship borne new class of missile cell. One in which a missile will be capable of carrying a nuclear payloads as will as be hit to kill capable. This new missile will be used against enemy satellites in any orbit. The physical size must be up-scaled to also house multiple Mark 41 and 57 missiles.

A). Dry dock all of the Independence class of LCS warships. On the rear decking add maximum amount of Mark 41 and 57 VLS Missile Cells. To create a VLS missile farm. Add fuel capacity to keep up with an Aircraft Carrier Battle Group. Then slave it to an Aircraft carrier. If this ship is docked then slave those live and active VLS Missile cells to command and control. So how many missiles can you put on one ship times 19. Then add in a little ducky or three. This ship will not go off alone. So no real need of extra advanced military tech. Unless you add new RADAR and sensor sets to further cover holes in coverage.  or add a boat load of fully automated guns on each side of the ship to protect against incoming drones and missile clouds. My attitude is trying to fix something with a COWA approach.
The central shaft of any umbrella or wheel is larger but weak and is incapable of firmly supporting the whole. The smaller spokes which surround the central shaft are also too weak to hold up anything. But, together is when the umbrella or wheel gains much strength.
The entire LCS classes may be incapable of any kind of formidable warfare. They can be made into spokes of a wheel or an umbrella.

Yet, I still do see some serious problems with self defense. This one thing is not even talked about. The Fords and all other Aircraft Carriers must have four or more times the guns on the sides of each ship. More CIWS Phalanx, many remote operated guns and grenade launchers on each side of the ship. Each with their own RADAR's and sensor packages. All of which can be automated or manually handled.  A CIWS Phalanx Jr. should be created in the 7.62 NATO round. There is a benefit when you carpet the sky with lead and it is inexpensive as compared to single missile costs. How many missiles will you need when a cloud of drones come in from different vectors all programmed to impact/detonate all RADAR's and sensors. Causing your ships to become blind and almost ready for capture. The DEW's shall be used to cause all of your ships to become dark and lifeless. To sustain any meaningful defense as your enemy will sacrifice ten times more men than you will have on hand. The blood of your enemy will flow into the sea first like a river. Then they shall take command. Thus begins the supreme embarrassment for the whole of America. This is not just about any of Americas Aircraft Carriers. This is about all surface warships in the US Navy. My intention with writing this is to save American lives. The enemies can all die. Let their blood flow into the oceans as they try and die. The enemies will fail if you heed my warnings more excessively than I can write it.
In this vision along with continual power outages. They will begin to encircle and then they will come directly.  As you witness the enemies approach is when you shoot and don't stop shooting. Even though I'm getting excited about all of the new technologies that are beginning to work right. As of today I am still in the "Stop Build" of the entire Ford class line. Really. If the funds are not available for 355 warships. Then why suggest 435 warships. It is not logical. It is like if one Ford class doesn't work then buy three more.
Which ships do you count or are going to count 435 canoes? Then you have to consider that the entire line of Tincon Cruisers are set to retire very soon and there is no replacement and most likely no funding. The older Destroyers are also set to retire and again there is no replacement. What about the entire LCS line which are planned to be retired. Yes, six year old ships. Those LCS ship wouldn't even get into the enemies green water because a Russian missile boat will sink it or worse an enemy with an RPG. The LCS's are a boondoggle. The Zumwalt's are another boondoggle. The F35's with more than 800 problems as of last month are still being built and you still cannot fly it at maximum speed or the F35 with fall apart at the fiery tail end. Yea, Really!!!
Then when technologies change as it does from time to time. The size and displacement of those classes of warships get bigger and longer. In order to pack in the new capabilities. This has already happened. Put it this way, By today's standards the old cold war engineered Ticons are just large destroyers. The Burkes destroyers are just large frigates. Israel will be getting a new Sa'ar 6 corvette with two different kinds of 48 missile launchers. So is this the new standard? Yes... Chinese destroyers are the size of an American cold war engineered Cruiser.

So how do you count your warships? Like in the days of sail you define your ships by how many guns they have. How does this apply to this modern era? You count VLS Missile Cells. This is one way. In today's modern era the guns are mostly gone and we now have the missile cells. These are already defined by Israel in their Sa'ar 6 Corvette and the Chinese new Type 55 destroyers with a combined missile capacity of 136 cells of at least two different types. The Russian Lider class destroyer will also have about 136 missile cells combined to three different types of launching platforms.
If the US Navy and the Pentagon does not change their definitions of warship classes. They will become as effective as the European nations in their naval capabilities. Just because you have cold war era warships does not mean they will be able to go toe to toe with a very modernized enemy. Look at warfare history when one group brought in ancient technologies to fight a then modern war. They usually lost badly. Especially when a Russian corvette can launch missiles more than a thousand miles away. That is the new definition of stand off ranges.

Added on 24 May 2020: Watching Midway. It reminded me of porcupines.
Except now we have remote operated guns. All with their own sensors and RADAR's. By designing new parameters for drone defense, small boat defense and missile defense. All tied into the primary computer systems. Can be manually operated or via AI computer. All Remote Operated Guns should come in a variety calibers and be mounted underneath the flight deck. All servicing, maintenance, repairs and loading are done from within the ship. These are now very necessary as the advent of drone warfare is more than a reality. These are also related to CIWS Phalanx Jr.'s. Which have not been invented. One function of these systems which must be properly engineered into all ships is the ability to put lead into the sky in panic mode or full AI control. When things are going bad or wRong.
The entire New generation of Aircraft Carriers will most likely have to be wider. In order to offset additional steel, guns, ammo, electronics, motors, dozens of multiple Remote Access points and additional electrical amperage. It will be more engineering work. But, it will save lives and win battles when the drones come in to cause attrition level damage. Attrition level damage will cause your ships to become helpless. Then when you become helpless. Your ships can then become captured and not sunk. If you think I'm repeating myself it is because I am and this is serious.
These porcupines will evolve into true LASER turrets and DEW mounts. Once those technologies mature into useful and effective weapons, useful ranges and useful times of destruction. Then the Remote Operated guns can then easily replaced with the new systems. Hopefully via plug and play type of system.
NOTE: If it takes more than a split second to destroy a threatening target at the comfortable ranges as emotionally determined by the commanding officers in Charge. Then your system is not functional, practical or mature. They should not be used.

I read the news and the proclamation of "All hands on Deck" in regards to the Ford.  When you have a program that is full of design and engineering flaws. It takes a huge amount of man hours to overcome design and engineering defects. Which was either done criminally or incompetently. My vote is people involved in the design and engineering are worse than criminals as the issues go far beyond just being criminally minded as these crimes approach that to treasonous acts across many contractors and weapons platforms.

The news is out on the Fords and it is very good news. The other news is bad and sad. They sold a couple of retired carriers for scrapping. The US Navy needs to keep them and repurpose them or sold them to Japan, GB and Israel. Because, if they were sold to friendly nations. They would have become threats of concern that Americas enemies would have had to plan for. Just their presence would have altered how enemy assets are positioned in their perspective theaters. I just hope when the Cruiser becomes retired. I hope they are repurposed and not scrapped. If not, then. They are also sold to Japan, GB and Israel.

I still have a problem with the width/beam. This is only because I want to add to the sides of this great ship much more defensive and offensive weapons systems. I would like to add at least 100 Mk57 VLS on each side as well as a whole host of fully automated gun systems. So adding 12ish feet of more beam on each side would be necessary. That would still keep you under the maximum beam for the Panama Canal. With an additional 12 feet of beam. Could you add another screw? Would you need to add another screw? 
I see the need of enemy defensive depletion before sending in priority AI and manned weapons systems. So the launching of cheap missiles ahead of the initial missile flights should be done, then launch re-fueling drones, then the launching of manned flights, then the launching of big bomb missiles and then refueling drones for deep penetrating manned flights. Then other air assets as needed. Drones must also be able to refuel in the air. I think they already can.

The US Navy is about to decommission two more aircraft carriers in an atmosphere when the threats in the world are very high. This is very unwise. The hulk of what was the USS Enterprise should be repurposed. The USS Nimitz and the USS Eisenhower should be refueled and modernized. Even if that means creating new dry docks for this effort.
The Chinese threat is substantial. Taiwan is even an unspoken lost cause which will define just how ineffective the USA at protecting their friends and allies. 
The US Navy does not have the manpower, ships, missiles, planes or drones. The US Navy does not even have adequate gun or missile defenses to protect themselves from a numerical onslaught of enemy assets. 
The US Navy cannot contend with the Chinese Navy, The Chinese naval militias or the container ships which will have missile systems on them as well as used as suicide ships by the thousands. 
 Then the worse thing is this. What happens when entire US Navy Aircraft Carrier Battle Groups are captured?
